Leading a healthy lifestyle should not be a punishment. It is a decision of empowerment and self-esteem that we can all choose.
I believe that training your body to be healthy by exercising and eating well should be enjoyable. Should our muscles wake up sore, the pleasure of exercising our body will make it well worth it.
"Your body can stand almost anything. It is your mind that you have to convince"
Training has a lot to do with discipline but also in being conformable and having fun. When you have fun time passes super fast and you nearly notice that you have been working out. It basically feels like a game. Who doesn't want to be laughing and enjoying themselves when working out?
I want to share 5 things that I consider the secret to training at home and succeeding:
1. Choose the space you want to workout in and make it yours.
You don't need to have a big space or a home gym to achieve this. Get some scent oils to boost your mood. Whether you find yourself in the living room, your bedroom, basement or your patio... buy yourself a yoga mat of your favourite colour and get the music going!
2. Find your perfect workout.
Research the fitness industry and find the perfect workout for you. Now a days we have a very large variety of classes. From yoga and pilates, passing through combat and barre to all sorts of aerial disciplines.
3. Set yourself a schedule.
It is easier to start if you set a schedule to get yourself going. Basically, you are telling your brain "it is gym time!" If you commit to your "workout hours" you should reward yourself. I do this by having a Yogen Fruz at the end of the week. Remember is all about smiling.
4. Don't punish yourself
Remember "Leading a healthy lifestyle should not be a punishment. It is a decision of empowerment and self-esteem that we can all choose." ENJOY! Enjoy your training, enjoy your workout and enjoy your resting time as well. There will be days you feel bloated, energy drained, or even sick, there is nothing you can do about it. Listen to your body. Most probably you are lacking nutrients in your body or just sleep. Pamper yourself with a good tasty salad, a high in protein meal, a bathtub and a good sleep. You will feel better tomorrow and continue with your training.
5. Set a Challenge for yourself
Create or download a 'fitness tracker'. Set an easy challenge like "21 day challenge", take pictures of yourself before and after. Track your water intake, sleep hours and your fitness progress. Keep a journal and keep yourself motivated!
